About The Artist

Sydney Malyon

is a ceramic artist with a love for the natural world. She first began her journey with ceramics in 2021, as a Visual Arts student at Red Deer Polytechnic. From the first day she touched clay, she was hooked! Her skill and passion for the medium quickly developed after converting her garage into a home-studio. Inspired by the quiet nature that surrounds her home in Sylvan Lake, combined with neutral and muted color palettes, she constructs pieces that reflect her state of mind while building with her hands or using the potter’s wheel; calm and meditative. Designing both sculptural and functional forms allows her to continue learning new skills and processes. Being a forever student in her craft fuels her desire to consistently improve.

Malyon hopes that by sharing her ceramic work and processes she inspires others to make time for activities that settle their mind, soul, and body in a world that praises constant productivity and busy-work. She finds beauty and peace in the slow creation of ceramics, and satisfaction in the ability to evolve her designs, or scrap them all together in the early development stages. Malyon continues to slowly dip her toes in the waters of being a practicing artist with a sustainable ceramics career, and thanks all of her friends, family, and customers for their support in this journey.
